Dr. Lydia Ahn is the founder and primary investigator for the Race and Relationships Lab.
Lydia HaRim Ahn, Ph.D. is a tenure-track assistant professor in School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology at Arizona State University. She received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Her program of research focuses on the effects of racism on health outcomes, familial protective factors (racial socialization, attachment, parenting), and methods of healing to promote positive psychological outcomes. Her research is informed by counseling psychology principles by utilizing a strengths-based approach to her research to and utilizing science to inform practice and vice versa.
She also received her master's in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Pennsylvania and her bachelor's degree in psychology and communication arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was an international student from Seoul, South Korea who also grew up in North Carolina during her early childhood.
In her free time, she likes to play volleyball, dance, read books, drink coffee, hike, explore restaurants, and write Yelp reviews. She strives to engage in work-life balance throughout her career.
